This is one of the most fun tournaments of the year in Tucson! Held at the wonderfully spacious facility of TCCC, the tournament featured 3 main sections, with many Class A players battling for the honors. We had a wonderful turnout of 60 participants, who kept the tournament very exciting by playing some very beautiful and complicated games, with lots of creative ideas and checkmating themes. We also had many new participants and some traveled as far as from Nogales and Scottsdale to take part in this event.

Open section was tied with 3.5 points each between a chess Veteran Mikhail Belakovsky and our own Rohan Mittal, who just came back from India (I wonder if he had lessons with Anand there but didn’t disclose that information). 3rd place was shared between Ethan Li and Lawrence Bernstein.

Booster Section ( Under 1500) was won by Ryan Thompson, who just won his section at the Old Pueblo last month with a perfect score of 4 out of 4!

2nd place was tied between Denham Carlisle, Sam Watson and Emma Wing.

The Booster Section was won by Luke X Wang with a perfect score of 4 points, while 2nd places went to Pranav Eswar Jayaganesh. 3rd place was tied between Quinn Hudson, Ryan Hornby, Max Coy and Kennedy Warrilow.

12 people got trophies and medals, while everyone got special stickers for their games.

I want to that the Tucson Chinese Cultural Center, the Tournament director John Wright, all the participants, helpers and parents for helping us run this event smoothly and nicely.

You can find some pictures from the event on the Flickr ( located on the main page of our website) and for your convenience- here is the link to the tournament: http://main.uschess.org/component/option,com_wrapper/Itemid,181/

Good luck and see you all next time!
