Just few years ago, very few would associate Harelson Elementary with a chess program. Yet, in just few short years Jessica Martin ( who now resides in North Carolina) had done a truly amazing job in transforming this school into a real chess powerhouse. The school has won numerous titles, including State Championships and has a thriving chess club. They also organized many chess events throughout the year and thanks to their large school area, rooms and outside play area, it is a great place to run chess tournaments for any organizations. I have recently had a meeting with some of the volunteer parents and the school administration and their support for the chess club is overwhelming. It is working out with Ben as the coach very well and I think the school has many bright chess years ahead of them.
