Booth-Fickett was one of our latest Chess Club additions in 2008. As a Magnet School, the administration, parents and students were very interested in starting a serious chess club. After overcoming the usual obstacles involved in starting a new chess club thanks to some of the parents, we were able to enlist the services of and Matt Noble as the official coach. The school chess club started the year on a high note: 30 participants in the club and winning trophies in both Team and Individual sections right at the first tournament. I think the school has a very good chess potential going into the 2009-2010 school year.
