After a few years of inactivity, Green Fields Chess Club started back again in 2005. None of us could predict that within the next 2 years the chess club would become one of the most prominent chess clubs in Arizona, winning numerous State, Team, and Individual tournaments. Green Fields is actually the reigning K-6 2009 State Grade Champion. Thanks to wonderful parental and administrative support right from the start and the students’ desire to learn chess and participate in competitions, the chess club grew into very strong K-3 and K-6 teams.

This year, the school broke a unique record of having every Kindergarten student signed up for the chess club in September. The club grew so much that I had to enlist the help of Amanda Mateer, who has done a wonderful job throughout this year. The fact that the 2nd Western Alliance Summer Chess Camp was held there and attracted many new students, helped the chess club grow even faster. That is the reason that the 3rd and now the 4th Western Alliance Camps are held there too. The school has spacious rooms and a wonderful outside playing area that nicely complements any chess camp or tournament.
